I’ve known about “my street”, Winlock Park, in North York since the ’90s when I would live in Toronto for four months at a time while on a co-op term. Some friends at the time offered to get me one of the street signs but I declined their offer. Back then, I had no idea it would take 15 years for me to get a photo and walk on my street.
NPY came to visit me in Toronto from 29 October to 1 November and then we went …
My City, Running »
A friend of mine recently asked, twice, why I stopped running. Paranoid, I wondered if that wasn’t some kind of a hint that I should resume a training regime because I’m getting round or something. Actually, he asked because runners usually have a hard time leaving the sport and I laughed and told him I never liked the physical act of running and I got so intensely bored of training in Vancouver (and getting beat down by the rain).
At the same time, I think a half-marathon 21.1km is the perfect …

NPY’s new entertainment set-up. He’s safe-keeping my television until I get back and it’s the “perfect size” for his bedroom.
I spent my last two nights in Vancouver over at NPY’s because my apartment was so empty it was depressing and it seemed like a nice way to cap things off. Just the week before, I also stayed overnight once because I had a 9-a.m. exam near his place and with parents and three grown “children” living in the house, there is a constant buzz …

He says, “Happy 1st Birthday to D–!”
Indeed! It’s so hard to believe that D– has entered our lives and our married friends’ lives have changed so much as those who have married approximately five years ago moved on to the next stage. Earlier this year, we attended another first birthday party where I bought clothes and felt a twinge because the birthday girl was far more interested in imaginative gifts like toys. So, before I left, as much as NPY and I like buying …

Another Easter weekend in Toronto. Last year I went over the same weekend and helped Lil’ Sis move into her apartment. This year, her apartment is all set up in her very natural spa-oasis theme and we went slightly nuts again! More diverse this year, too.
Panera Bread
As per my usual custom, I took a red eye flight leaving Vancouver at midnight and arriving in Toronto at 7a.m.; with the three-hour time difference, it meant if I slept continuously I had only four hours of sleep. Then, in Toronto it’s a …

With Lil’ Sis with an fabulous and cozy little apartment in Toronto, I can easily extend my stopovers in the city and did just that to start off the year, kicking back in Tee-Oh from January 1 to January 4. I named this post as I did because as it currently stands, I don’t know for sure yet if I’m returning at the end of the month for a long weekend to to attend a “grad” ceremony for Lil’ Sis!

(I wrote this in the early morning of Sunday, January 4, 2009, but edited it now for clarity.)
I’m sitting in Vinnie’s 30-something floor apartment living room with a clear view of partially frozen Lake Ontario, CN Tower poking into the fog, and the various satellites atop communications hub CBC. I am in a slice of sky, amongst downtown skyscrapers and condos. We were out and up late last night and, natually, I’m the first one to be awake and rather than twiddling my thumbs, I BLOG.
I had the spectacular kind …

(I originally wrote this around and after December 23, 2007. It has been edited a little for clarity. It’s been really nice to finally publish some stuff that’s been languishing in my drafts and unbeatable to take a walk down memory lane.)
When I arrived at the big (new-ish) terminal at Toronto’s Lester B. Pearson Airport on Sunday morning with very little sleep and much stimulation from the night before, I had a little cry. I was leaving again and I was flooded by all the decisions that once took …

I don’t know which website has the most comprehensive Toronto restaurants listings+reviews (like I believe dinehere.ca in Vancouver to be), so I’ve uniformly linked every restaurant to their Urbanspoon page.

We met up with family (two uncles and one married cousin with his wife) and I was sooo relieved that we did not dine at our stand-by regular restaurant, Scarborough Grand, although had we dined at a traditional …

I left Friday night a week ago and returned nine days later, late on Sunday night.
First, I was in Toronto for the weekend that was well-timed for the August long weekend, Caribana (the Caribbean festival), and an influx visitors for the party long weekend. Short one of our girls, Vin and I still had a really nice girly weekend complete with a parade, a soca party, drinks, eating, shopping, and a good dose of best-friendly chatter.
Then it was back to Halifax and splitting my time helping Thuy with her wedding …
