Introducing… Rice Dumpling Mascots

I paused for a long time outside the T&T Supermarket entrance taking in the super-cute kawaii poster of something resembling a mushroom soldier with a big green cap surrounded by mini soldiers in different national dress.
To celebrate Dragon Boat Festival 2010 (June 16), T&T created 12 flavours of 糭子(simplified: 粽子; English/Pinyin: zhong zi), glutinous rice bundles wrapped in bamboo or reed leaves. Too Cute to Eat

Our friend Su made the most amazing bakery discovery and showed us with a flourish at Ed and Carina’s double birthday last month.
I had previously known of King’s Bakery (somewhere in Richmond) for their wrapped cakes (纸包蛋糕) – we bring them across the country to eager appetites in Toronto and Halifax. Now, I think these darling cakes have, er, taken the cake.
Although they look far from it, each cake is light sponge cake with a middle layer of light cream chockful of chunks of melon, pear, and mango!

a dog’s life

a bright spot during the walk to my summer rotation lab was passing the doggie day care around 23rd. this was the scene on saturday…. =D
isn’t the life of a dog grand? wouldn’t it be great to spend your days playing with and then sleeping in the sun with your buddies (platonic sleepovers, that is ;)).
